South Korea is celebrating its 38th National Teacher's Day today.
The day, which marks the birthday of King Sejong, the creator of the Korean language Hangul,… has been observed annually as a day to express gratitude and respect for teachers since 1965.
The education ministry will hold a special event at the Government convention center in Sejong City at 11:00 AM, Korea time.
Education minister Yoo Eun-hae will award nearly three-thousand teachers for their outstanding support and guidance.
To mark the occasion, some 700 elementary, middle and high schools out of nearly 12,000 schools nationwide have closed for the day.
Other schools have seen students handing red carnations to their teachers as a sign of appreciation.
