GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump promoted his new hotel and touted his recent endorsement by more than a dozen Medal of Honor recipients Friday before briefly pivoting to what he had billed beforehand as a “major announcement”: An admission that he believes President Obama was, in fact, born in the United States.
The candidate was flanked by retired Navy Lt. Michael E. Thornton and Army Sgt. Maj. Robert M. Patterson, both of whom earned the Medal of Honor in Vietnam and wore their medals Friday. Trump said they are among 17 Medal of Honor recipients who have endorsed him. That number also includes retired Army Sgt 1st Class Leroy Petry, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan; the others served in Vietnam, Korea or World War II.

“We seem to have a very good chemistry together, but even the generals admit, there is something very special about Medal of Honor recipients,” Trump said.
