The Original Wolverines was a revival of the famous band the Wolverine Orchestra. They added the "Original" to differentiate themselves from Husk O'Hare's Wolverines, a band that Jimmy McPartland had also been a member of in the pervious year of 1926. This version of the band was under the direction of Dick Voynow the Wolverine Orchestra's original leader anf pianist. The sessions starting after May 24th of 1928 - including the one we are hearing here - appear to be a different band that had no relation to the Wolverine Orchestra. On this side, waxed in early 1929, we are actually hearing Fred Hamm's band. Fred Hamm and his Orchestra were a dance band from Chicago that was managed by Edgar Benson of Benson Orchestra fame. Hamm's Orchestra performed at the Marigold Garden in Chicago from 1923 to 1925. In 1925 Fred Hamm took over the leadership of the Benson Orchestra. Fred Hamm recorded again in 1929 under the name of Fred Hamm and his Collegians and - apparently - also on this one single side, as the New Wolverines. The lovely vocal is by Frank Sylvano. The disc was not in the best possible shape, but I definitely considered this version too beautiful to discard.
