Nearly every artist has their own dedicated legion of fans, or “stans,” whether it’s Nicki Minaj’s Barbz or Ariana Grande’s Arianators. The term originates from Eminem’s 2002 song, “Stan,” where he raps from the perspective of a fan desperate for the Detroit MC’s attention. Since then, “Stan” has become a cult classic, and 17 years later, the word was officially added to the Oxford Living Dictionary, where it’s defined as “an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.”
