The change in resistance changes the 5 V reference from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), thus informing the PCM of the temperature of incoming air. If the PCM notices that the incoming air temperature Sensor 2 is unusually high, when the engine temp is still relatively low, it will set a P0097 and will be stored and flashed by the PCM, illuminating the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
What causes the problem of Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low Bank 1?
Lack of reference voltage to IAT sensor due to open wiring.
Increased high intake air temperatures
Signal circuit is short to ground
IAT connector are damaged
