Prime Minister Narendra Modi today once again laid stress on the need for a 'Clean India' by saying that he wants to achieve that goal by 2019 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
"I have come to Japan earlier as well and met with the Indian diaspora. If you go anywhere in the world, two or three things are narrated by the expatriates like there being clean toilets elsewhere…that is why, in this regard, the biggest mission undertaken by me is of 'Clean India'. Though it is difficult, but somebody has to begin working towards it," the Prime Minister said at an Indian community reception. "In 2019, we will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and he never compromised on cleanliness. As a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, I want to accomplish the mission of 'Clean India'," he added.
