Tamil Nadu: 17 year old village boy’s arm chopped off by village goons

In a grim reminder of the feudal set up that prevailed decades ago, three men allegedly severed the hand of a 17-year-old boy in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, all because he disrespected one of the culprits, who happens to be the husband of a village panchayat president.

Police said Karthik, son of Rajadurai of Siruvanoor in Narikudi panchayat union in Virudhunagar district, had ignored the presence of Krishnan, husband of Devi, the village panchayat president, when he moved past him two days ago. Karthik, who was sitting on a platform, apparently did not stand up to show respect on seeing Krishnan.
