Pakistani rangers detain BSF jawan in Akhnoor sector

A boat carrying four Border Security Force jawans capsized in river Chenab in Jammu early morning on Wednesday. In the accident, while three swam to safety, one army jawan was swept away by strong current in the river and captured by the Pakistan Rangers.
Immediately after the incident, BSF chief D K Pathak said that they are in touch with Pakistan Rangers and are hopeful that the jawan will be handed back to them sooner than later. While comfirming the capture of the trooper, the Pak Rangers said that they are interrogating him.

The BSF has sought a flag meet with their counterparts to get the trooper freed.

The trooper, who has been identified as Satyasheel Yadav of the water wing of the border guarding force, was patrolling with four other personnel in the Paragwal-Khour sub-sector of general area Akhnoor along the Line of Control when the boat they were travelling in developed a problem.

According to report, the motor of the boat failed while negotiation a sharp bend on the river. When the rescue boat was sent for the jawans, three of them were able to take the boat while Yadav was swept away by the strong current in the Chenab River and landed 400 metres away in the Sialkot sector of Pakistan where he was picked up the Rangers.
