A 17-year-old girl was found raped and murdered at Tichampatti in Karur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night, police said.
The girl, who passed Class 12 exams and was waiting for admission in a college, was working at a mosquito net factory near Mayanur. She used to go to the factory on her bicycle.
On Monday, when she didn't return from work, her parents and relatives went in search of her. They found her body in a betel leaf farm.
Her father, a farmer, registered a police complaint. Further investigations were on. Police were yet to identify the person or persons behind the crime.
