Amarinder Singh to be Congress Deputy leader in Lok Sabha
  • 5 years ago
Congress president Sonia Gandhi today appointed former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh as the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha. She had earlier this week sprung a surprise by naming former railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge as the party's leader in the House.

Both Mr Kharge and Mr Singh, interestingly, are of the same age, 72.

Mr Singh had defeated Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley in Amritsar in a fiercely-contested election. The senior BJP leader, however, continues to remain a member of the Rajya Sabha.
