A battle of legacies is shaping up in Sultanpur, where the youngest scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family and the local erstwhile royal family are pitted against each other. BJP's likely candidate Varun Gandhi is taking on the wife of Sanjay Singh, who had threatened to rebel against his Congress party but was nominated by the party to the Rajya Sabha.
However, Congress candidate Amita Singh sounded a warning to the 34-year-old challenger. "He is encroaching in our territory. This is my land. He is coming from a different place and trying to sneak in." She also questioned his claim, saying, "Sultanpur was never his father's constituency. It was always Amethi for the Gandhis and Rahul Gandhi ji is carrying the legacy as the MP from the seat."
