An Indian prisoner has been found dead in a prison in Karachi.

He has been identified as a fisherman named Kishore Bhagwan, according to Pakistani media.

Indian diplomatic sources said they are yet to hear from Pakistani officials on the matter.

In December, another Indian fisherman named Bhikha Lakha Shiyal died in a Karachi prison. His body has yet to be handed over to Indian officials.

In May last year, the death of Sarabjit Singh in a jail in Lahore escalated tension between India and Pakistan. The Indian had been beaten to death by fellow inmates.

He had been arrested in 1991 and given the death sentence for spying and carrying out four bomb blasts that killed 14 people. His family maintained that he was an innocent farmer who was arrested after drunkenly wandering over the border.
