The Indian Army denies territory grab by infiltrators. In fact in a clarification issued by the Armed forces, they say that a massive infiltration bid in the Keran sector of Kupwara was foiled by the forces last week, though search operations are still on.

This after a report published in Greater Kashmir Times states that Pakistani Forces marched across the line of Control in Kashmir's Kupwara region on September 23rd and have occuppied Indian territory. The report also claims that the the border ghost village of Shala Bhata in Kupwara has been captured by Pakistan forces. This is the first time since the 2001-2002 near-war that Pakistani troops have held territory across the Line of Control.

The intrusion is said to have taken place on the night of 23 September, taking advantage of gaps in patrolling which took place when Indian troops were busy changing guard, during a routine rotation of troops. The intruders took cover in unoccupied observation posts overlooking a nullah, or village stream, as well as abandoned homes.
