Naroda Patiya case hots up, SIT to move Gujarat HC

The Naroda Patia massacre case of the post-Godhra riots in 2002, which left 97 people dead, is back in the reckoning. The Gujarat Government has sanctioned SIT's demand to move the High Court seeking death sentence to former Minister Maya Kodnani and nine others including Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi convicted in the case. SIT sources said that its request to punish the 10 convicts by hanging was approved by the state legal department. In August 2012, a special court in Ahmedabad had sentenced Kodnani to 28 years in jail while Bajrangi was sent to jail for the rest of his life.
