Thane building collapse: Rescue operation ends, 72 dead

The rescue operations in the tragic thane building collapse have come to an end. Police have confirmed that the death toll is 72 so far with more than 60 people injured. The builder duo, the Sheikh brothers had been absconding but now one of them has been arrested. While police nabbed Salim Shaikh, his partner Jammel Kuraishi is absconding. Preliminary reports indicate that the seven-storeyed building was unauthorised and inferior quality materials were used for its construction. Also civic authorities claim that building existed on forest land and was occupied at least up to the fourth floor.
