Mumbai: Under-construction building collapsed; 28 dead

Nearly 28 people died and over 40 people were injured when an under-construction building in Thane collapsed partially on Thursday evening. The incident took place at 6.30 pm, following which fire tenders and medical teams rushed to the spot. Sources say many more are feared buried under the debris. Rescue operations are still underway to extract them. Preliminary reports indicate that the building, being built by Naseef Qureshi and Zameen Qureshi, was unauthorised and inferior quality materials were being used for its construction. Residents from the area have alleged that the builder had accommodated labourers in the building, to show that it was occupied and is not razed by authorities.
