Sri Lanka attempts to build bridges with India before UN vote

Sri Lanka is trying to make amends with India, in a hope that New Delhi votes in its favour at the UNHRC. 34 Indian fishermen have been released and handed over to Indian Consulate. They are now being brought to Jaffna, pending repatriation through ICG and SL Navy. Meanwhile, the MEA is pursuing the case of 19 other fishermen still detained in the Gulf of Mannar. Angry fishermen in Rameswaram have convened a meeting and have decided to go for indefinite strike from today for the release of those detained by Lankan navy.
