Its vindication after the 20-year-long legal battle for Pakistani microbiologist Dr Mohammed Khalil Chishti, the 82-year-old has been acquitted by the Supreme Court of murder charges. The apex court had convicted and sentenced him for voluntarily causing hurt and his sentence has been counted as served against the time spent behind bars. Authorities have been directed to return all documents; Dr Chisti is free to return to Pakistan. The court has also said the authorities need to ensure his ''smooth return'' considering his age and qualifications.
