Two key allies who rescued the govt from the FDI tight-spot in Parliament have taken diametrically opposing positions on promotion quotas for scheduled castes and tribes. The govt now finds itself in a quandry. BSP chief Mayawati has issued a three-day ultimatum for getting SC/ST quota promotion bill passed, while Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party has threatened to disrupt Parliament until the proposal is withdrawn.
