2G spectrum auction: Round 2 ends with dull response - NewsX

The first and second round of auction for telecom spectrum held today has ended in poor response from Telcos. Round three is currently in progress. Sources say that in round one, only UP (East), saw excess bidding. But then, the telecos withdrew when price was raised, thereby bringing down the price for each of the 22 circles to the base price of Rs.14,000 Crore. In round two, just once circle saw any bidding happening at all. Sources also point out that there have been no bids at all for category 'A' circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and category 'B' circle of Rajasthan till now. Sources attribute the lack of aggressiveness by telecos to the high reserve price of Rs.14,000 Crore for 5 MHz of 2G spectrum.
