GoM clears land acquisition bill - NewsX

Finally some consensus on the Land Acquisition Bill. The Group of Ministers cleared the controversial Bill, the draft report will be sent to the Cabinet for approval, and is likely to be moved in the Winter Session of Parliament. The Land Acquisition Bill, which is being pushed by the Sonia Gandhi led National Advisory Council, seeks to prohibit forcible acquisition of land for non-public purposes. In the last GoM meeting, members had expressed differences over the government's role in acquiring land for private parties. But Agriculture Minister - Sharad Pawar, who chairs the panel, s aid that the GoM succeeded in ironing out some differences.
