Reality bites: Mother sells child for food - NewsX

In the most bizarre instance of modern-age consumerism perverting human values, a young mother in Orissa sold off her 17-month-old son to buy clothes, cellphones and some other items. The incident was reported from Jajpur district of the state, where the police detained the woman Rakhi Patra for selling her son for 5000 rupees. Rakhi told the police that she did this to pay off the legal expenses in getting her husband freed from jail. Rakhi said that she bought some stuff for herself and gave 500 rupees to the advocate to fight the case. Rakhi's husband in jail on charges of theft. But the police say that her story didn't add up.
