A day after the Government announced the Rajya Sabha nomination for master batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Mumbai today. He will also visit some drought-hit villages of Maharashtra in the Satara district.Gandhi will hold separate meetings with the party's state and district committees as well as the National Students Union of India, the students wing of the Congress.
The one-day trip is being seen as a stock-taking exercise ... In view of the fact that the NCP has surged ahead of the Congress in the recent local body elections in Maharashtra. The NCP has been ally of the Congress since 1999, but is steadily losing ground to its ally. In an earlier visit in 2010, Gandhi had surprised Mumbaikars by traveling in a local train.
