Jewellers meet Sonia, Pranab to safeguard their interest-NewsX

It's the 21st day of the indefinite strike called by jewellers across the country today protesting the hike in import duty on gold and imposition of excise duty of unbranded jeweler. A delegation of jewellers met the RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav Thrusday, meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi. They are also scheduled to meet Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee later on today. The jewelers insist on a complete rollback of 4% import duty on gold and 0.3% excise duty on unbranded jeweler, which were announced in this year's union budget. The protestors have also stepped up pressure on the government by planning massive rallies in Delhi on April 7 and Mumbai on April 11. Jewellers in Kolkata are also threatening to go on a hunger strike on April 7.
