A scam eerily similar to the Adarsh society one is emerging in Mumbai once again. A yet-to-be report from the Comptroller and Auditor General shows how MLAs applied for apartments in Mumbai's Aashirwad Housing Society by grossly understating their incomes. The CAG has accused 11 MLAs of submitting fake affidavits and income certificates to claim that they were not earning more than 12,500 rupees per month. As a result, these MLAs managed to get their hands on prime properties worth several crores, when infact they spent only around 15-18 lakhs on the construction and costs pertaining to the lease of each flat.
