Govt's decision on Rajoana case likely to impact other death penalties - NewsX

The Union Government has opened a Pandora's Box, by setting an unhealthy precedent in deferring the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana, The key accused in the assassination case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. The Centre's decision is likely to impact other high profile cases, like the parliament attack case in which the key accused Afzal Guru is facing the death penalty. Surprisingly both the Congress and the BJP that want to be seen as parties with an uncompromising stand on terror are speaking with one voice on the issue. The Congress says that the law is taking its course... but the fact is that the president who has been presented a mercy petition is advised by its own government. The BJP on the other hand is evasive about what the case does for Afzal Guru.
