Forty-one Hong Kong and 30 US tourists escaped unscathed from a fatal armed robbery in the Peruvian Amazon. The tourists were staying at the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Hotel, when around 10 robbers stormed in. The robbers shot dead one local tour guide and stole valuables before they fled. The Hong Kong tourists were traveling on a package tour in the Madre de Dios region. The area is known for its amazing biodiversity, but has been troubled by illegal mining gangs for the past decade.
