Ahead of her tribute at the 61st annual Grammy Awards, musician Dolly Parton was honored on Friday with the MusiCares Person of the Year award.
As the first country singer to do so, Parton acknowledged the award by using her signature humor. MusiCare helps music industry members in need.
She joked, “Of course, you know we hillbillies need MusiCares too...We may not have sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, but two out of three ain’t bad.”
Parton not only help popularize country music throughout the U.S., but has also sold over 100 million records. She also gives back.
Reuters explains, "The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, founded in 1995, has mailed more than 100 million books to children in the United States and other countries."
Friday's MusiCares charity event raised $6.7 million dollars.
