Face-changing terracotta warrior

A digital installation which superimposed public faces on an oversize image of China’s iconic terracotta warriors has been shut down by authorities after it drew widespread criticism. Using 3D-modelling technology, the device scanned faces of visitors and then projected their images onto the installation for three minutes. Some criticised the device as an insult to Chinese history, but others said it was an entertaining showcase of local culture. The installation is reportedly being moved to a less public location – the Xian Beilin Animation Industry Platform – where it will be used for exhibitions.
