Volkswagen retains top spot in global car sales, Toyota remains second

Volkswagen AG remains on the top spot in terms of car sales with 10.8 million vehicles deliveries. Arch-rival Toyota remained on the second spot with 10.6 million deliveries, the Japanese company said in a statement.
Toyota's sales rose 2% to 10.6 million vehicles last year. Volkswagen took the sales crown from Toyota in 2016 and has kept it since, weathering a global industry slowdown better than rivals, helped by its top position in the world’s biggest market, China.
