No detailed demand from Trump on cost sharing for U.S. troops in S. Korea: Presidential Office
- 5 years ago
Turning now to a sharp denial from South Korea's presidential office.
The Blue House has rejected reports Presidents Moon and Trump discussed the specific contributions each side would pay for the roughly 28-thousand U.S. troops stationed in South Korea.
In a text message to reporters,... the top office's spokesperson said reports President Trump demanded during last year's G20 Summit that Seoul shoulder a far greater proportion of defense costs -- up to 1-point-2 billion U.S. dollars -- were simply incorrect.
He added that "President Trump, nor any other world leader would speak in such a manner",... saying such false reporting could greatly insult the U.S. President.
Earlier reports suggested Trump may have pressed President Moon to pay at least one-billion dollars for the U.S. troop deployment on the peninsula.
