Who Were the Swiss Mercenaries?

During the Italian Wars, between France and the Spanish/Imperials, both sides used Swiss mercenaries, armed with pikes and fighting in squares.

At Agnadello (1509) the Swiss annihilated the enemy cavalry.

At Novara (1513) they destroyed the opposing German Landsknechts squares, winning a decisive victory at that phase of the war.

In the first part of the war they achieved what we would call, today “Full Spectrum Dominance”

Let's learn more about them.
