Kim’s fourth summit with Xi
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited Beijing for three days starting Monday, January 7 on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Kim is believed to have asked Xi to ease Chinese enforcement of UN sanctions against North Korea, ahead of Kim’s proposed second summit with US President Donald Trump.
The visit came a week after Pyongyang warned it may change its approach to nuclear talks with the US and its allies, if UN sanctions continue.
China’s response was expected to give the North Korean leader an idea of how far he can push back against Washington if the Trump administration refuses to compromise on sanctions.
The latest Kim-Xi summit was the fourth time they have met since March 2018.
