China’s last cave people
Zhongdong Village, or Middle Cave, is China’s last cave village. It was built after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 by Miao ethnic minorities to evade bandits.
For nearly seven decades, the villagers have lived off the land and maintained an agrarian lifestyle. But they might be soon forced to relocate by Chinese authorities aiming to ‘eliminate poverty’ by 2020.
