The first of this weekend’s two one-hour races comes live from Malaysia’s former F1 venue, Sepang.
Managed by SRO Motorsports Group, the championship predominantly caters for the same GT3 and GT4 cars currently competing in various series all over the world. Indeed, Blancpain GT Series Asia’s roots actually lie in another SRO-run category, British GT, which features a similar GT3/GT4 format.
Each of the championship’s six race weekends includes two one-hour races: one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Two 15-minute qualifying sessions - one to decide each race’s grid - are also staged on Saturday, while practice takes place on Friday and Saturday.
To maintain a level playing field each driver’s ability has been graded one of four different colours by motorsport’s world governing body, the FIA: Bronze (amateur), Silver, Gold and Platinum (professional). These determine whether a driver can compete in the Silver Cup, Pro/Am or Am/Am divisions.
