"Women's Magazines". An invitation to a Strauss charity ball to be held on 8th February 1858 in the Sofiensaal was published on 4th February 1858 in the Fremden-Blatt newspaper. It also listed the new compositions by the Strauss brothers which were to be performed at this event, including the Frauenblätter waltz by Josef Strauss, labelled as "new". Therefore this work must have had its premiere in February 1858. However, it is not possible to confirm its initial performance at the specific ball, as the events at which premieres were performed were mentioned only in conjuction with the titles of Johann's works. The selection of women's magazines was not very extensive in the Habsnurg empire in 1858. nor is it possible to identify the favourite magazine of the ladies depicted on the cover of the piano edition of this work. The women's liberation movement had not yet taken more than its first baby steps. Johann Strauss took his brother's waltz with him to Pavlovsk and presented it to Russian audiences at his third charity concert held on 29th July 1858.
