New Farakka Express derailment: Government announces compensation

Seven people died and several were injured after nine coaches of New Farakka Express derailed 50 metre from Harchandpur railway station on Wednesday. Union Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal has expressed deep condolences over the loss of innocent lives. He has announced ex-gratia of rupees five lakh to the kin of the deceased persons, rupees one lakh in case of grievous injury and Rs 50,000 in case of simple injury. Goyal is in constant touch with railway administration and has directed the officials to effectively undertake relief and rescue operation and provide best possible medical help to the injured. The Railways Minister has also ordered inquiry into the accident which will be conducted by CRS, Northern Circle.
