Fan Bingbing fined for tax evasion

China’s highest-earning actress, Fan Bingbing, has been released from secret detention after she disappeared from public view for more than 3 months, sources with knowledge of her case told the South China Morning Post. Fan was ordered to pay nearly 892 million yuan (about US$130 million) for tax evasion and other offences, including 288 million yuan in unpaid tax. She was accused of being involved in tax-dodging dual-pay schemes known as “yin-yang contracts” that split agreements into two – one public and one under the table.
