Watch: Virtual Reality helps elderly experience life beyond care home walls
  • 6 years ago
Virtual reality technology is helping improve the lives of dementia sufferers in Australia. Researchers trialing the technology in care homes say it keeps residents entertained and can help to calm them down.

Milford Grange Aged Care Centre in Brisbane is one of many care facilities across Australia trialing virtual reality as a recreational tool for residents.

"You see them start to relax, start to smile. They're looking at the dolphins and after it's finished the agitation is reduced," says Behavioural Support specialist Elisabeth Elder. It also helps those with dementia by stimulating their memory and exposing them to new experiences.
