Victim of sex slavery demands shutdown of Japanese-funded foundation
  • 6 years ago
A 92-year-old South Korean woman held a solo protest on Monday in front of the foreign ministry in Seoul... over the way they handled Japan's sex slavery issue.
Kim Bok-dong... a victim of the wartime atrocity... demanded the government get rid of a foundation set up based on a 2015 deal between Seoul and Tokyo... to help the survivors.
Kim said the Reconciliation and Healing Foundation, funded by around nine million U.S. dollars of Japanese money, misses the point.
She said the victims have not been fighting just for compensation... but for a sincere apology from Tokyo for its past actions.
Similar protests are planned through the end of September.
