Korea Consumer Association claims engine control software is to blame for BMW fire crisis

A probe carried out by the Korea Consumer Association has found the engine control unit software is to blame for the numerous cases of BMW sedans bursting into flames in South Korea.
This goes against what the German automaker has insisted.
It says the fault is in its exhaust gas recirculation hardware module.
The investigation group claims BMW has updated its engine control unit software,... which has enhanced its engine performance and fuel efficiency,... but also put its vehicles at a higher risk of fire.
The association, comprised of experts from the legal and auto sectors, has been carrying out its own independent investigation.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has called for a fresh probe to look into all the possible causes of the fires.
