Typhoon Soulik passing through Jeju and nearing mainland Mokpo

태풍 '솔릭' 제주 지나 목포에 근접... 주민들 '노심초사'

Typhoon Soulik is more powerful than the ones you typically see in Northeast Asia.
It's well over 300 kilometers in radius.
Inside wind speeds exceeding thirty three meters per second.
We start things off by connecting to our Choi Si-young who has been tracking the developments in Mokpo, at the southern tip of the Peninsula.
Si-young, we've seen you battling pretty strong winds and rain to keep us up to date on the situation since earlier today.
But how are things looking at this hour.

That's right, Daniel.
As we speak, the eye of typhoon Soulik is still in waters off the southern coast of Korea.
As you can see, it's windy. I can feel the wind and rain getting stronger by the minute.
Local residents say they have tied their boats to the dock for the incoming typhoon.

As typhoon Soulik passes through Jeju Island, it's expected to approach the mainland near Mokpo at around 7 p.m., bringing even more torrential rain and wind.
In the morning, a typhoon advisory was issued in the area... and in some other major cities and counties in Jeollanam-do Province.
As of now, all ferries out of Mokpo port are suspended,... and flights from nearby Muan and Yeosu airports are also suspended.

Local ferry owners here in Mokpo all moved their relatively small ships to the ground... to avoid the possible loss of or damage to their propperty.
The larger boats are tied to the dock with strong ropes.
Most of shops and restaurants nearby the port closed down.

I will keep you updated throughout the evening. Back to you, Daniel.
