U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis has kicked off his first trip to South America since taking office.
He arrived in Brazil on Monday and will visit two cities before moving on to Argentina, Columbia and Chile in the coming days.
He told reporters traveling with him that the U.S. is looking to expand its partnerships with the nations of the region where it makes sense to do so.
