Somnath Chatterjee's last journey; mortal remains to leave hospital at 12:30 noon

Veteran CPIM leader Somnath Chatterjee has passed away at the age of 89. The 89 year old was admitted to hospital on Tuesday due to a kidney related ailment. He was undergoing dialysis at a private hospital in Kolkata. The 10 time Lok Sabha MP, Somnath Chatterjee was one of the longest serving parliamentarians in the history of India. He was the speaker of the lok sabha from 2004 to 2009. He was however expelled from the CPI(M) in 2008 for refusing to resign as speaker after his party withdrew support from the UPA 1 govt. In 2009, Chatterjee retired from politics after completing his tenure as speaker. In 2010, Chatterjee chronicled his journey through the Indian political landscape in the autobiography ‘Keeping the Faith: Memoirs of a Parliamentarian’.
