Bihar to amend prohibition law, reduce fine under it

Facing backlash over the harsh prohibition law, the Bihar government proposed an amendment to the law by fining first time offenders caught drinking liquor with Rs 50,000 or handing a three month jail term.

The state cabinet approved tabling the amendment in the state assembly during the upcoming monsoon session.

The first liquor offence would also be bailable and non-cognisible. Presently, it's a non-bailable offence.
