Payment to N. Korea for repatriating U.S. war remains is to reimburse costs: VOA

As North Korea plans to repatriate hundreds of remains from the Korean War back to the United States,... the U.S. Department of Defense said they are authorized to reimburse the North for the costs of the operation.
Washington-based Voice of America on Tuesday,... quoting a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency official, reported that the U.S. government does not pay any government or individual for the remains of missing Americans,... but it is authorized to reimburse any costs incurred while recovering and repatriating their remains.
The official also said that the 22-million U.S. dollars Washington sent to Pyongyang for the repatriation of an estimated 6-hundred-29 sets of remains between 1990 and 2005 was to reimburse the North for the recovery costs.
