Although Paul Van Loan (1892 in San Francisco - 1963 in Los Angeles) was a successful bandleader, songwriter and film score composer, surprisingly I did not find any biographical data about him. He recorded no less than about 40 sides from 1923 through 1925. Rust quotes the New York Clipper of February 1924. According to this article, the personnel of his orchestra then was Allen McAllister and George Hall-t; Paul Van Loan-tb-a-ldr; George Vaughn, Tom Kraus, Glenn Wakeman-cl-ss-as-ts; Joe Cirina-p; Whitey Campbell-bj; Ed Grier-bb; George Sterinsky-d. During the sessions of 1923, Clyde Doerr also was present on some of the recordings. According to the Internet Movie Database, he was credited for one complete soundtrack (Little Pancho Vanilla, 1938), the composer of the music for Tucson Raiders, 1944 and Arizona to Broadway, 1933, as well as the composer of stock music, music copyist or orchestrator for no less than 45 other movies and one TV series from 1932 through 1963. As for this great recording, it was waxed in 1925.
