Scots wildlife centre shows off adorable Owl chick

A Scots wildlife centre has shown off its latest recent arrival - a fluffy little owl chick. The chick, which is an Indian Eagle Owl, was born at the beginning of January at the Scottish Owl Centre in West Lothian. It is the first chick of its kind to be born in the centre with the aim of training it to eventually take part in bird displays. It is being hand reared and trained, eating a diet of baby chickens. Senior keeper Trystan Williams said: "We're still deciding on a name. We try to pick a name that isn't male or female as it's hard to tell the sex until it's fully grown. "It's the first time we've bred Indian Eagle Owls at the Scottish Owl Centre. It's nice we can have one trained that was born right here. "We start its training with its feeding. We hold it out of reach so it has to step to you. Eventually it will be running up and down the arena and flying to get to the food." Indian Eagle Owls live in India and its surrounding countries in mountainous and rocky areas, feeding on rabbits, hares and even peacocks. The Scottish Owl Centre has 120 birds in total, with 20 trained to take part in aerial displays for visitors.
