Meet the family that will lay King Richard III to rest

Jenny Gilbert, 34, is the director of AJ Adkinson and Son, the company responsible for the final journey of the medieval king’s skeleton.

The remains were exhumed from beneath a car park in the former Greyfriars Friary Church in Leicester city centre in September 2012.

The area had more recently been the site of Leicester Grammar School which Jenny had attended, but the school moved in 2008.

She explained that she would unwittingly walk across the campus’s car park on her way to lunch every day, not knowing what was underneath the tarmac.

Richard III’s skeleton was discovered on the site in 2012 and the University of Leicester announced in February 2013 it had proven that it was the king’s remains.

This followed DNA tests with two 17th-generation descendants of Richard’s sister, Anne of York.

Miss Gilbert wrote to the Dean of Leicester Cathedral following the discovery offering her services in the re-burial.
