Classic aircraft crashes during air show

This was the moment a Royal Navy pilot crash landed his classic aircraft perilously close to thousands of spectators - then hopped out to a round of APPLAUSE. Pilot Chris Gotke was soaring over the crowds at a packed air show at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall when smoke suddenly started billowing from his cockpit. Cool-headed Chris radioed in for permission to land but as he neared the runway the wheels would extend properly on his decades-old Hawker Sea Fury. Onlookers gasped and cried out as the classic plane crashed into the runway before sliding on to its belly. But their shock turned into spontaneous applause as hero Chris brought the wrecked fighter plane to a halt and hopped out unscathed.
